History: from inventing electric systems for disabled to a highly professional partner in European defence industry
SIMA Innovation was founded in 2005 by the couple Jeanette and Mikael Kildevæld. They named the company after their two daughters, Sille and Maria, and started the company in their private house.
Mikael is an engineer and loves to invent new electric gadgets that make everyday life easier. At that time, they invented and produced aids for the disabled and held a patent for a system for electric wheelchairs.
However, a request to help design equipment for military vehicles, led the couple to restructure the company.
The initial developments of lightweight motorised Ringmounts were conducted in 2006, and the first samples were delivered to the Danish Army in Afghanistan in 2007. Since then, we have created several solutions where we put ourselves in the soldiers’ boots to develop, test, and implement the equipment or accessories they need to operate as efficiently and safely as possible.
In 2014, we started delivering to the French market and a French OEM. That provided the opportunity to expand and hire.
In 2017, we won an EU tender of +500 Ringmounts over seven years for Danish military vehicles. That gave us the economic strength to build the present domicile in Årslev, Denmark, where SIMA Innovation is situated today. In 2024 the agreement was renewed for another seven years.
Today, we have around 35 employees and we exclusively produce equipment for the military. The present building is too small, so a great part of the assembly takes place in rented premises 10 km from the domicile while we are designing and planning a major expansion of the workshop and office facilities.
The Kildevæld couple have recognised that their strengths lie in development and have therefore entrusted the daily operations of the company to Niels Thorup as CEO. The couple remain the owners, sit on the board, and set the strategy for the company’s future.

A European defence requires a strengthened defence industry. Security of Supply
When working with defence, security of supply is key. So, apart from taking part in developing the European defence industry, we also take part in developing local businesses to be able to cope with strict security standards.
At SIMA Innovation, we don’t have production in-house. But we still want to be independent and be able to always deliver as promised. For this reason, and for the sake of security of supply, we have at least two suppliers for each component.
So, we have a great web of suppliers, all of whom must meet all security requirements associated with the defence industry.
We emphasise geographical proximity, and over 90% of the suppliers are Danish, most of whom are from Fyn, the region where SIMA Innovation is situated.
